About Me
I’m Lawrence Beyer, a self-published composer specializing in Grade 3 concert band music. I first started composing at a very young age, when watching my sister spend late nights in MuseScore brought me comfort in a time of fear. This experience sparked an interest in the craft that would continue to grow throughout High School. I played in the band and jazz band, sang in the choir, helped backstage with the school’s musical production, served as the band director’s student assistant, and composed a piece for a science project that got great feedback from everyone who listened to it. All of these things not only inspired me to create music, but also showed me just how important music is in the lives of all students who play or sing it, whether they pursue a related career or not. With this in mind, I decided to pursue a career writing impactful music, but I also wanted to make an impact that reaches far beyond the music I create. How?

Secant Studios
My goal is to empower new composers to write better music with less frustration. I aim to build a bridge – a secant line, if you will – across the great chasm of confusion we all must navigate when learning this craft. That way, these new composers can write music that resonates with the players, making an impact that only their unique voices can.
How do I plan to do this? Step one: free resources to help new composers write the best music they can. Step two: ...?
Big things are coming soon. So what can you do to help?

If you’re a composer:
Keep composing. Your music is important, and your unique voice will resonate with people in a way no one else’s will. Check out the free resources I’ve made to see if they’re helpful for you, and let me know if you have any ideas about how I can make them better.
If you’re a band director:
Check out my music. If it’s not a good fit for your band, no worries! I trust that you'll find something else that is. If you can afford it, consider commissioning a composer to write a piece curated for your players with their feedback, as this will be an unforgettable experience for them.
If you’re something else:
Share this with someone you think it might help. Encourage the young people in your life to participate in various music programs. Do whatever you can to help those around you experience the beauty and power of music.

Thank you!
